HR light blinking after taking the watch off hand

After latest update, HR sensor lights remaing working/blinking after the watch is taken off the hand. And it keeps blinking all the time, never turns off. I tried restarting, and tried changing position of the watch when off hand (flat on the table, on its side, on the watch band, on a book...), and issue persists.

No workout wactivity was done, just wore the watch regularly on hand for last couple of days to measure steps.

Does anyone else have this problema or knows how to fix it?

  • Mine working as before update. Lights go off after 3-5s on table.

  • I also got this, but noticed it one time only. Came back from training, took it off to rinse the sweat off and the green light hasn't stopped all the time I took a shower(wasn't wearing it during shower). There was no water on the sensor either, I wiped it.

I got it to stop by putting it for a short time on the wrist to take a reading, and then after taking it off again, the green light stopped. So went back to working normally.

  • Video showing my experience with the blinking heart sensor with the watch off the wrist. Please read to post for details.

It happened again, so I think I can reproduce this quite consistently.

  • I have this too. Not every time but I only really take it off for a shower & then as with you. I've noticed it is still flashing after shower.

  • All-

Please first, turn off the heart rate sensor on your watch:

Next, hard reset the watch.  To hard reset the watch, press and hold the 'A' button (top right) until the screen goes blank.  Ignore the Controls Menu and the Assistance Alert screen.  Once the screen goes blank, release the 'A' button.
Next, turn the watch back on.  Turn the heart rate sensor back on and, if the issue persists, please reach out to your local Garmin Product Support for further assistance.
  • Hi Kevin

This works but is not a permanent fix. I have had the same issue again 2 or 3 times since carrying out the above the day you sent it. Will this be addressed or are we stuck with it ?

  • Hello .  We are still supporting vivoactive 4 with software updates, but currently do not have any other reports of this submitted to Product Support, only preliminary reports here in forums.  I encourage you to reach out to your local Garmin Product Support team for further troubleshooting and/or possible exchange options.

  • What surface is the watch on when you take it off?  Try putting it with the back up. as some surfaces will fool the OHR on watches.  Putting it back down on a non-reflective surface may also work

  • Thanks for the input but it has nothing to do with that.

  • Could you specify where exactly should we report that issue at product support?

The link you provided leads to whole bunch of other posted information but no clear link as to where to report a bug.
