Vivoactive 4 update 6.80 problems

I recieved the update last night and woke up this morning to a garmin that will not work. I did the soft reset which did nothing. I connected it to my laptop with Garmin Express and had to cycle the power to get it to recognize my device. Something is bad wrong with this update.

  • My Vivoactive 4s is also not connecting to the app after the update. It is not seen at all by Bluetooth.  Tried everything including connecting it to different devices (both Android and Apple).

  • My watch will no longer connect to Garmin Connect. I have reset everything. Turned phone on and off, blue tooth on and off. Re-set watch. This is all since the update on Thurs as my runs up to Weds are logged. Seriously annoyed at this. Anyone resolved it?

  • I had similar issue, where watch would not keep bluetooth connection when I tried to connect to the Connect app. I have S21 and after I cleared bluetooth cache data, and reconnecting, the watch connection works fine.

  • Update!!! I was able to get it plugged into my computer and wiped the entire thing which got me up and running. I then dumped all the memory and apps from my watch. I feel like the GPS was dragging it down. I reloaded what I felt I couldn't live without and everything seems to be good so far.

  • I cant connect to the App anymore, cant connect to my HRM Belt anymore - F*** what is this SH*** .

Bluetooth an ANT seems to be broken !!

The watch is unusable for me right now.

Everthing worked until the last update .

i reset everything - the watch , bluetooth on my Phone, the App - nothing seems to work.

Not Even other Phones are able to connect to my garmin watch - so the issue is located definately on the watch !!

  • Same here...all kinds of issues.  First it completely powered off and i had to connect to Garmin Express to fix (lasted about 10 hours)...then I got some weird colored boxes with no other functionality...again had to connect to Garmin Express to fix.  Now I am having issues connecting HRM and the wrist heat rate seems stuck for hours...shows steady # rather than normal up/down fluctuations...and also no accurate steps/flights/intensity minutes are captured on either watch or connect app.

  • I’m also seeing Bluetooth issues after update to SW6.8 (and battery issues that seem to be getting better after multiple charging cycles and  syncs through PC connection and Garmin Express).  Of note, when I go to Settings > System > About > SW Versions I see:

    SW Version: 6.80

    GPS Version: 5.40

    ANT/BLE/BT Version: 0.00

… that BT version seems like it could be problematic.

  • Hello all-

If you are experiencing Bluetooth connection or pairing trouble, please follow steps below:

    1. How Do I Remove a Device From the Garmin Connect App?
    2. Instructions to Pair a Garmin Fitness Device to a Smartphone
      • Be sure your have your watch in Bluetooth Pairing Mode when you do this.

If you see 0.00 for any of your software versions and syncing with Garmin Express does not resolve that issue, please contact your local Garmin Product Support directly:

  • Hi Kevin,

Thank you for this.  But please note that the mentioned recommendations are very basic, we have been through them various times and still have issues. There are serious problems pairing with quite a range of Samsung phones since either version 6.80 on Vivoactive 4/4s or more probably Connect version 4.52, rendering this update and various Garmins completely useless. Garmin needs to find out what is happening with the Bluetooth stack and fix urgently.

I suggest people look at this link with 18 pages so far to assess the frustration of various Garmin users with Samsung Phones.

    https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-andriod/283174/repeatly-bluetooth-pairing-codes-after-disconnecting-watch#pifragment-455=18

Have skimmed through the pages of this provided link with various Samsung Smartphones having reported issues and I can list them as follows so far:

    Samsung A10,A20, A22, A31, A32, A41, A51, M32, Note 10 Lite, S7, S10, S20, S20FE-5G, S21-5G

Garmin has been ignoring us for 2 months with a problematic intermittent connecting App version, ironically called Connect, rendering our Garmin devices as crap, while our Samsung phones are happily working with other apps.

May I suggest you please touch base with "Garmin - Luke" who had taken charge of the other thread but also appears to have forgotten us?

  • Hello !  Thank you for referencing that link.  I did not think of including that because I did not see anyone mentioning having to re-pair the watch/app(due to the repeated bonding codes), only that they were having Bluetooth connection issues with the watch/app or that they were having issues with Garmin Express recognizing the watch was plugged into their computer.

As far as the issue itself goes with the repeated bonding/pairing codes, we are still looking into these reports and I can assure you that we have not forgotten about you.  Slight smile  For any updates, please feel free to comment on the thread and tag .
