Puls not working after update

Puls not accurate after new update. I just had my first work out after the recent update on my Garmin vivoactive 4s.

I know my work outs, and my kardio usually gets my puls up high. Usually 190-200 when at it's most intense. But during this workout, my garmin only got a puls reading in the 130ies on the first round. I tried restarung the watch. Then during the next workout the puls got to the 150ies at most. I've done all the basic stuff to make sure it can read my puls, and restarting and so on. Nothing is working. Even in the testing time after the workout, when I know my puls is still high, it's reading in the 80ies....

I've tried another fitness watch getting an update and that ruined the watchs puls function. Thats why I even got a garmin, and know this one is doing the extac same after an update..

  • Moved thread to the vivoactive 4 forum.

  • Get used to an cheststrap and forget about optical sensor for activities.

  • So, to get advertised feature of a watch he must buy another device.

  • Wear the watch correctly and clean it before workout.

Did you use the watch before update and it reported more accurately puls during workouts?

  • I've used it for over 6 months without any trouble. It had worked fine until the update. It logged my workouts and puls without any problems.

I did try all the basics to se if that would help. Like cleaning it, moving it, restarting it and so on. It did not work.

  • Put it as in one-time-off category and keep using it, maybe it will return to normal. If not, than the only thing that can fix it is garmin update. It is not the first time that update wrecks something.

  • If by last update you mean 6.80, you may be right.

I just noticed that my HR seemed low on all the activies since Feb 19 th, when I think the update happened.
I also have a VS4 that I used on the other wrist to cycle today. And I got an average difference of 25-30 bpm, with the VA4 being lower.
I suppose the VS4 could be off a little, but not that much.

  • I also notice that the reported wrist heart rate is significantly lower for "Cardio" activities after version 6.80. I welcome that, as the old values used to be far too high. Now they are closer to realistic real world data (chest strap). That will also help make my Strava relative effort and the reported daily intensive minutes more real.
