Heart Rate Monitor Problems

Hello,

I have the Vivoactive 4s with firmware version 6.50. My watch has stopped periodically logging my heart rate (stress, sleep, and daily heart rate info is no longer available). The watch face and heart rate widget only show "---". Heart rate data is logged during activities (such as jogging), but that seems to be the only time it works. This behavior started on December 28th. The green lights on the bottom of the watch no longer flash.

I restarted the device, charging it via USB, and I confirmed that the heart rate sensor is on (Setting -> Wrist Heart Rate -> Status = Auto).

Has anyone else seen this issue or have any info on how to resolve it?

  • I use the treadmill-activity for indoor running, and get rather accurate readings even for 4 minute intervals. This was yesterday with only wrist based heart rate:

I got up to around 160bpm. 170 is maximum effort for me, and I was taking it a bit easy (post covid) in this run. I also double checked the active rest at 110 bpm against the treadmill heart rate sensor.

  • Thanks Ove, it is good to know that the technology can get to the accuracy it should. I have seen reports online that +/-10bpm is normal...and I would be happy with that.  +/- 30bpm is unusable.

I'm going to try my wife's fitbit to see if it is my watch or my arm that is causing the problem!

  • I have exactly the same problem as described by jonspratley. Following the latest update, the heart rate no longer records values above 130. However, for the lower zones, it seems accurate. I had the watch replaced under warranty and the new one exhibits the exact same problem. I am thus sure it’s a software problem which appeared in version 6.80. And I agree, if this is not fixed, the watch loses its value almost completely.
