Option for Vivoactive 4 to use my phone’s GPS

Even though my Vivoactive 4 has its own built-in GPS, it would be a useful power-saving feature if I had the option to use my phone's GPS instead.

While I like my Vivoactive more in general than my previous Fitbit, this is one Fitbit feature that I miss. My Fitbit didn't originally have this ability, but it was added after purchase as a software upgrade. Battery life for activity recording was greatly improved.

Is this an option being considered for a future Vivoactive software update?

  • At least then the WALK INDOOR activity would work correctly, because that's exadtly how the Vivosmart 4 handles the WALK indoors, tethered to the phone's GPS/Location.

  • The va4 doesn't use the phones location for indoor walk.  Things like distance use your walking stride length and steps.  Your phone doesn't need to be anywhere close for indoor.

If the distance is off, check your walking stride length in GC/GCM

  • +1 for this. I would love to have the option to use my phone's GPS to save battery.

  • Yes, I know how the VA4 Walk Indoor activity works. And unless your stride and everything else meets Garmin's criteria it doesn't work. I have walked LOTS of Walk outdoor with GPS on the VA4 and it does not use that to figure it out.

And I have entered my stride after measuring it for 50 feet and 100 feet and it;s accurate, but not quite as long as Garmin want's it to be for their magic formula.

Personally I think the way they figure the Walk Indoor it is a step backwards from the Vivosmart 4 which actually works!

But I seriously doubt if Garmin will add anything of value to the VA4 after 2 years. There are already a number of things that should be "fixed" that are not. There won't be any enhancements.
