Vivoactive 4s Calorie count seems.. inaccurate?

Hi Everyone

For the last 6 years I have been with Fitbits however have always wanted a Garmin and have finally got a Vivoactive 4s. I've had it for 2 days and been wearing it for one and the main issue I'm finding is my calorie count seems way off.

I live generally a very active lifestyle and accumulate 16,000+ steps a day and also do some very hard gym sessions. My schedule has been the same the last 2 weeks as I've been quite intense and I'm on average burning 5000+ calories a day. Today however with the Vivoactive 4s its saying I've burned about 2900 calories in the day. I get maybe my fit bit has been overestimating but based on what I've done 2900 way off.

My height, weight and age are all up to date. I check on the connect app, is this a regular occurrence amongst users? does the watch need time to acclimate to my body?  should I track everything I do from walking for an hour for it to register? or do I potentially have a dud?

Any help or advice or previous experience would be much appreciated! T

Thankyou!

Or maybe fitbit was inaccurate the whole time?

  • The resting calories are the same every day, and they are based on your data, including the indicated activity level. On top of that, you have active calories, which are based on your heart rate during the day. You don't need to start activities for it to work.
Notice that the number is growing until midnight, so if you look at it in the afternoon, it will not show the full value yet.

  • I want to believe that but again 3000 feels way too low for the output I’ve done today. My house mate who has an Apple Watch and has only gone to the shop has burned more than me which never happens and I’ve done 16,000 steps and plenty of miles travelled too. I’ve also had various different fit bits and Apple Watches over the last 6 years that haven’t been this drastic in change. So feels weird that it would be off by 2000 like that

  • Yes my issue is my active calories are only showing 700. I burned 500 in my workout but only 200 from the 15000 step walk I went on. Something doesn’t correlate

  • Have you entered the maximum heart rate correctly?
I think the resting heart rate will need some days to be correct.

15000 steps sounds like 11-12 km or so. 700 calories would make sense if you are a woman around 65-70 kg. If you are a 100+ kg man, I agree it is too low.
