Vivoactive 4S & HRM pro compatibility (?)

I am interested in buying a HR monitor and I just checked that Vivoactive 4s isn't compatible with HRM Pro. I am just wondering though if the Pro can be paired with the watch in order to be used as better heart rate device and if the numerous metrics which the Pro applies and stores can be uploaded to Garmin Connect account (not in watch since they are not compatible).

I mainly interested in weight lifting working out where the optical sensor doesn't seem to work properly, as well as in cycling and running if the metrics can be uploaded to GC account.

Thanks a lot in advance guys.

  • I Use the HRM Pro with my VA4s. As a heart monitor it works fine. Ie. better than the wrist based OHR. That HR data is downloaded directly from the HRM Pro to GC and viewable in GC. Even though running dynamics (eg running form, work load, etc is probably download to GC it is not viewable. I was able to get a cheap Forerunner 245 which does support running dynamics, recovery analysis, etc. With the 245 set as my preferred activity tracker in GC I see all the relevant running dynamics, etc info in GC but if I switch back the VA4s as my preferred tracker then that extra info is not shown. Each watch has its pros and cons, just a shame Garmin seems to have stifled the performance/running dynamics aspect in the VA watches.

  • Thanks a lot for the update Svenxx but as you mentioned just a shame...Doesn't worth to spend so much money for the Pro one since will be working only as heart rate monitor and since the Dual one (and cheaper) will provide the same metrics. The only potential here is if Garmin unlocks soon this compatibility option and eventually stops selling overpriced products and the asks more accessories in order to work properly. Such a same and so breaking nerves situation...

  • I would also buy running dynamics Pod or HRM Pro instantly if V4 would simply support it.

  • I would also have bought the running dynamics heart beat belt if it was fully supported by the VA4S.

  • I guess even if we find 10000 people buying the HRM Pro if the Vivoactive would support it I doubt Garmin would implement it because of company politics...

  • 10k HRM Pro generate huge profit, thus they will get rid of their politic...when profits and money talk, every politic fades away...
