6.50 SW Battery Drain

Hi,

I updated my VA4 to 6.50 yesterday. Since the battery went down REALLY quick : charged the watch at 5pm, it told me this morning at 9am it has only 10% left.

I did not change any settings (no SPO2, no bluetooth or music or whatever).

Can you help ?!

Please leave a comment if you have a similar issue since 6.50 update.

Thank you

Claire

  • Try the following:

    1. Soft restart (Hold upper Button until watch turns off)

    2. Select GPS activity (e.g. running), let watch aquire GPS signal

    3. Start activity

    4. Stop Activity, Discard it.

    5. Do another soft restart (Hold upper Button until watch turns off)

Worked for me in the past, assume it has something to do with location or time that has to be synced through GPS and so GPS is active all the time.

  • I’m sorry to hear of the battery drain issues that you’re experiencing.  Let’s start by power cycling (turning off and then back on) your watch.  If the battery drain persists and if you have any Connect IQ (CIQ) Content, especially watch faces, you may need to delete that content until the independent developer is able to update their app/watch face to function correctly (without causing a battery drain) with the new firmware version on your watch.  You can use any of the 3 FAQs below to uninstall the CIQ content.

How to Uninstall Connect IQ App Content Using the Connect IQ App

How to Uninstall Connect IQ Content Using Garmin Express

How to Uninstall Connect IQ Content Using the Garmin Connect App

If you would like to submit feedback to the developer of the CIQ content, you can do so by clicking the link below and searching for the download page of the CIQ content.  In the bottom right corner of that page, you will find the option to contact the developer.

If you have not already reached out to your local Garmin support team, we highly recommend doing that as well:

***If you have uninstalled ALL Connect IQ content from your watch and you are still experiencing a rapid battery drain, please leave your watch free of ALL Connect IQ content (Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer are fine to leave installed) and reply to the following questions:

    1. May we, if necessary, have permission to email you?
    2. May we, if necessary, have permission to view/access your Garmin Connect account?
    3. In what country do you live?
  • Hi,

thanks for the hint, tried it, tried it a second time, doesn't do it for me

my battery still lasts less than 2 hours

  • Thx for the tip.
Tried this approach 2 times, but without any luck.
My battery is dead in about 20h (with only 30m gps track)

  • I have noticed the same issue as well. I have SPo2 enabled overnight and I expect a battery drain. it was at 47% when I woke up. After I woke up the SPo2 is turned off but within three hours the battery had drained by about 20%. I was not using any of its features except it was connected to my phone. The past three day I have noticed I have to charge it once per day.

  • Do installed watch faces and Connect IQ apps drain the watch even when not in use? I just have one of the stock Garmin watch faces when I am idle but I have a Connect IQ app installed for my trail runs but I hardly use it. I thought the IQ apps only drain the watch when in use.

  • Holy crap Garmin!!!!!! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY WATCH.

This just started with me with 6.50. I had noticed some time ago that my new/replacement vivoactive was not holding the battery as good as it use to, but I am losing around 50% every 12 hours after the 6.50 update. This is unacceptable.

  • Same thing here and no help at all.

Can this soon be fixed or at least give a solution. I tried all given solutions in this thread but still losing 80% a day !!

  • You don't want to do a simple power cycle.  You want to do a reboot - Hold the upper button for 20 seconds or so and the watch turns itself off.  Then turn it back on.

  • i tried everything, nothing is helping. Garmin ruined my watch.
Its useless, have to charge it all the time.
