Is the Vivoactive 4s worth getting or should I wait?

Hi

Newbie here so apologies if this isn't a suitable question.

I'm looking to replace my beaten up old Vivosmart HR with something a bit better. Looking at the Vivoactive 4s but notice it's a 2yr old model.

Is it worth buying now, or is there any speculation that a 5 series is round the corner? I can hold off as the Vivosmart still works albeit it's now very scratched/needs a new band/ doesn't charge well!

Alternatively, should I just bite the bullet and go for the Venu 2s?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Many thanks in advance.

  • Depends on what features are important for you. I need a robust and affordable GPS logger that can work with external heart rate sensors, work as a wallet (Garmin Pay), has good battery life with the display always on, can work with my Spotify playlists offline, can track sleeping and steps, and is very customizable. For this purpose, no other watches on the market can match it. As an extra bonus, it can track pool swimming even with heart rate, and I can log triathlons by using an IQ app. It is also very easy to use with the touch screen.

If you are more into health tracking as stress and SpO2, along with smart features from your phone, there could be better alternatives.

  • No difference between the VA4s and the Venu2s except the display. Battery life is a little different. That would not be worth the price increase to me.

  • Actually, that's the va4 and venu.  The venu2/2s is different - it's newer and runs the latest version of CIQ, and has things like a GPU, etc. .

  • My error. Thanks for noticing.

  • Thanks for all your replies. I'm looking for something with a GPS, step counter, relatively basic health functions, smart notifications and music. I understand Garmin Pay doesn't work very well in the UK but it would be handy too. Oh. And something that I don't have to worry about getting wet either is a bonus!

  • I have the Vivoactive 4s, it looks dated and is a bit buggy (for me mainly losing BT connection sometimes and not very good at vibrating in an understandable way during intervals). If I was going for a watch now I would get a more modern one with an amoled display (like the Venu2 or Huawei GT3) .

If you are on a budget look for a black friday sale and hope to get it cheap, else I would pass.

  • I think the display type on the VA4 is one of the main features of the watch. It has very low power consumption. For me, the Venu would be a significant downgrade.
