Hi Garmin, i did a run on the 29th of October, and i did the same run this evening (6th of November) and both show different maps and different distances. I am concerned that you are not tracking my runs accurately in this zone.

  • GPS on small watches arnt very accurate. Imagine the small GPS antenne inside the watch and its moving all the time up and down..... That cant be accurate.

If you run 10k the same route, its always between 9,8-10,2k measured on the watch. Deal with it.

  • Thanks for your reply. Sure, understood that there will be variation even up to 5-10% but this is different. I've been using gps since it became available to runners and I always "Deal with it" :) The first run I did: on 29th of October, registered as:

    3.71 km
    Distance
    22:59
    Time
    6:11 min/km
    Avg Pace
    97 m
    Total Ascent
    295 C
The second run(same route) on the 6th of November:
    5.96 km
    Distance
    34:36
    Time
    5:48 min/km
    Avg Pace
    169 m
    Total Ascent
    456 C
    Calories
The map on the first run is accurate, showing the loop i ran correctly. The map on the second run is wrong, picking up my run half way through the loop. Yet the second run is longer. This is a bit more than variation. It looks like an error to me. I have just moved to a new area and I wonder if Garmin is not so accurate here. That's fine tbh, i don't mind, it does happen. I just want to know if that's what i can expect. With that said, it's a run near the sea, a very nice cliff top trail, not sure if the gps is impacted by water/height etc. Certainly, neither run on that route to date appears to me to accurately reflect it.
  • Next time, wait until the GPS is fixed before you start running. If you run the same route every time, it will usually pick up the location a lot quicker than if you are in a new place.

  • Thanks for the response. Yep, that's fair. I didn't have it fixed before i ran the last time. Normally i'd not pay too much attention as it seems to fix it fine whilst running. Using a vivoactive 4(with music), and suspect the gps behaviour is not as robust as on the forerunner(without music) i had before. Next time i'll wait a bit longer before rolling out ^^ Thanks!
