4S vivoacti

I have a vivoactive 4S, in the middle of my work out it would want to send incident assistance and then shut my workout down. So I tried to disable that. Then today in my workout I got a message saying release power key for assistance and before I could do anything it switch off, haven’t been able to get it to come back on, I have plugged it in the charge and in on computer and just dead screen. Any help pleaseo

  • My Vivoactive 4 did the same last night - it vibrated and then said "release power key for assistance" for a few seconds, then went completely blank.

Connecting to power, or pressing the power button (lower of the two buttons) for 30+ seconds, etc, didn't make any difference. I left it charging for a couple of hours and then gave up and unplugged it.

I left it unplugged overnight and tried again this morning. It initially started up with a test/diagnostics set of screens, and then the power button could be used to turn it off and back on again.

However, it's just done exactly the same thing this morning, after being used normally for about three hours (no activity recording today in my case).

I'm guessing this is a bug with the most recent software update, where the device gets into this situation and then crashes? Not sure if anyone from Garmin actually reads these forums though.

  • This sounds like your button is stuck pressed in.  Please use a short plastic bristle brush (like an old toothbrush) to scrub around the buttons with warm soapy (mild detergent) water.  Moving forward, please use the cleaning and care procedures shown in the FAQ below:
