Pair Vivoactive 4 to 66i?

Hi folks,

Strongly considering picking up a Vivoactive 4, but I can't find a definitive answer in the product docs for one lingering question: can I pair a Vivoactive 4 to another Garmin Device, say a 66i GPS?

I would be looking to have activities through the GPS be coupled with heart rate/VO2 information on the Vivoactive. I'd be using my Vivoactive in areas without reliable cell signal, so the ability to pair to a GPS for this purpose would be a big win.

Otherwise, I'd have to track the path of the activity on the GPS through one activity, and the heart rate/VO2 info through a second activity on the Vivoactive...

But the Vivoactive 4 has a built in GPS, so why would you connect to an external device?

You can set the va4 to broadcast HR, and thjen pait the GPS66i to use that as a HR sensor. The va4 and GPS66i each already do GPS on their own.

There's physio Trueup where you can later Sync things like activites between the two, but that's done later using your phone.

Guess I wasn’t clear on the vivoactive 4 having a built in gps vs using a smartphones gps when paired. Thanks!

Garmin watches like the va4 always use built in GPS and not the phone for GPS.
