Best way to borrow a friend's Vivoactive

Hi all,

My Fenix 6 Pro went bust again so I need to return it to Garmin to get it replaced. I am, however, training for a race in six weeks so a friend offered to borrow her Vivoactive 4. I'd like to use Garmin Connect to sync all activities to my own account and continue using my current training plan, but I'm looking for the best way to do so.

The best way I can think of is to do a hard reset before I start using her watch, and then connect it to my Garmin account and phone/app. Then start using it and repeat this process before returning it to my friend. This way, however, she would end up with a watch that's completely empty and back to its default settings.

Can you guys think of a better way to approach this?

Thanks!
Ruben

  • It is possible to make a backup of most files on the watch, to restore it to almost the same level as it was. Besides, most of the settings are in the account, and will be copied to the watch again when it is synced.

There is a way to backup settings as ovekvam mentioned, but myself I would prefer to do it the way you've described with full reset and manually setting everything up. I'd do it simply because sometimes full reset cure various weird issues with the watch and probably that's because old settings are wiped.

Just ask her if she mind to setup the watch from scratch? As for programs, I'd just make a list of everything currently sitting in the account and then reinstall what's needed, that's a chance to get rid of junk sitting in memory and never used.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your replies! I’ll consider both options but I do feel Sensovision’s considerations.

What’s most important to me is that certain data like Training Status and VO2max values can be restored, but looking at what data can be extracted and backed up from the watch I’m not so sure that’s the case.

Either way, you sure helped me out so thanks again.

If anyone else sees other options still, please let me know :-)
