vivoactive 4/4s softwear update 6.30

I've updated my Vivoactive 4 to new release and i've found the followed issues:

- whatch doesn't register and upload the amount of weekly and day time in movement.

- system countdown vibration douring exercise doen't work at all. till version 5 countdown worked from 5 second till end; in version 6.20 from 2 to end and now from 1 to end.

-hear rate doesn't work correctly... even if is not in skin contact it signs minimum 100 hr.

- gps need a lot of time to attach signal.

- uploading exercise from devise to connect (via smartphone and bluetooth) require much more time than before and often lost and restart again the operation.

- i was at sea level and altimeter/barometer sensor signed -20 m.... whaaaaaaat?!

system developers and tecnics, now i'm really pissed off!
whit every release you all do not fix anything and create much more problems!
i spend a lot of money for garmin device and now it doesn't work as everyone says.

Please, fix all problems once for all!

I'm a bit confused with this, are you talking about intensity minutes? As if so I didn't pay much attention to those, so can't give any feedback if they are broken or not.

I was sad that they touched this feature too, as started to miss some intervals during run especially when they coincided in time with goals notifications. I guess the intention was to optimize battery life  which I think they succeeded. As for countodwns I would prefer it the way they were on 5.80 but current implementation which was introduced with version 6.20 is better than it was on early 6.x versions.

-hear rate doesn't work correctly... even if is not in skin contact it signs minimum 100 hr.

True, I recently start to wonder why my HR is higer than usual during slow walks, so I've tried to measure it with my chest strap which I'm using only for bodyweight workouts and running but not walking, and as I've learned pulse readings can be quite inaccurate sometimes like 20 beats or more. And I'm talking about normal walk not brisk one. In fact I've discussed just that in the other thread a moment ago: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu/271639/recovery-rate-wrong-since-v-6-20

    - gps need a lot of time to attach signal.

are you using GPS only mode or combination? Because for mix fix happens in less than 30 seconds, I've good record of using GPS+Galileo, but possibly for your location it's worth to try GPS+Glonass or GPS only mode.

    - uploading exercise from devise to connect (via smartphone and bluetooth) require much more time than before and often lost and restart again the operation

That's weird, I never experienced anything like that. Maybe there is a hardware problem with your watch which coincided in time with the firmware upgrade? Just guessing.

    - i was at sea level and altimeter/barometer sensor signed -20 m.... whaaaaaaat?!

this can  happen due to weather changes, and your altimeter needs a calibration from time to time. To do that just walk outside and select some activity like "Run" or "Walk" which engage GPS and wait till it find GPS, the status for GPS should change from "Wait for GPS" to "Ready" and the line from red should become green. After that wait 30 seconds to get 3d fix and then start the activity.

Then you can safely stop and discard the activity, it should calibrate your watch's altimeter to get correct altititude readings.

whit every release you all do not fix anything and create much more problems!

I'd say that the latest release isn't that bad aisde of HR readings, anyway building software isn't not an easy things and seeing that they actually fix the bugs which are reported by community is a sign that they are actually trying to make their watches batter.

  • Sounds like something went wrong during the upgrade on your watch, since my VA4S works just fine with 6.30. No issues.

  • Another upgrade-hoax! Although I've disabled the gesture backlight function, while I work out, it still lights on when gesturing. Needless to say that the heart rate in HIIT training (strength - weight lifting, 13 reps/set, 1 min break/set, total sets 24 plus 2-3 set abs) challenges you to break this watch. Maximum heart rate 100-105 and of course the whole training is not recorded since this heart rate zone is warm up or easy. Fix this #$%#@$#@ watch or just refund us.

For me also this new feature is not helping me in intervals workout. Should be at least 5 seconds countdown till end.

1 second countdown :)) is nothing. Please fix it back.

And in 6.30 battery drains 1 or 2 days quicker then previous versions with same usage habits.
