Vivoactive 4s Battery life after 1 year

  • My vivoactive 4s is 1 year and 2 months old.  For that time, I was happy with my battery life and only had to charge a couple times per week. 2 days ago, the watch froze up. After turning it off and back on, it would no longer connect to my phone.  I did every troubleshooting tip I could find online, but ultimately had to reset the watch.  I have gone through everything and have verified that I have all settings the same as before the freeze up.  I do have it set to have Bluetooth connection to my phone and I have activity tracking on, but I always had those on before, too.  I do not use it for texts. I have the headphones off so that they are no constantly trying to connect, and I turn on the connection when I go for a workout. Now the battery is draining fast and needs recharging today after 9 hours. It seems like it is not just a routine battery life issue at this point, but that something went bad inside and I am likely to need a replacement. Has anyone else had this type of sudden dramatic deterioration in their battery?
  • I am guessing the upgrade to firmware 6.10 went wrong. Some other unfortunate customers have also had the watch freeze up or had rapid battery drain after the upgrade. The drain issue seems to happen to some people every time Garmin rolls out new firmware, but the freezing up is new for 6.10.

  • Do you know if it is fixable? During the reset, I had gone to software on the watch to do any updates and it does not have any at this point.

  • Some forum users have reported that it fixed itself after various types of restarts.

  • I'm experiencing this too, would love to know if there is a fix, If I should downgrade the firmware, or just wait for an update?

  • I have tried multiple restarts, sync with Garmin Express via the laptop, reset to factory settings this week multiple times. I have had no luck. Not only has none of it worked to improve the situation, my watch is now dying in just under 4 hours without even having GPS turned on or anything else beyond just wearing it.   I am going to try to reach a real person at Garmin by phone this week to see if there is something else to do. If not, I would hope they would replace it. If they will not replace it, I may have to think about a different brand.

  • Happy update!!  My watch is just outside of warranty but not by much. I called Garmin and discussed the battery drain issues and all of my efforts at restarts and the worsening of the battery situation, and they are going to replace it!
