6.10 software update drains battery

Since 6.10 update yesterday, battery drains 1% every 30 mins.

Also, a 2km 30 minute stroll was recorded as 60km over the 30 minutes giving me the impression that I'm Superman (far from it)

Garmin, please provide 6.20 update to fix these issues. Thanks.

  • Hi sensovision.

No, I don't have PulseOX on at all & have confirmed by checking graphs that it hasn't inadvertently been turned on.

I did run it manually a couple of times to check it was working & these are the only readings visible on Garmin Connect.

It seems to be working as expected in that regard Shrug‍♂️

oh well, it was a nice guess but guess the wrong one, what about custom watchface do you use one from CIQ or built-in?

  • Nope. I use stock Garmin analogue type face with date, battery %, calorie & HR. Maybe it will settle down again as yours did. I believe you updated before me so I still have time for that to happen. Frustrating thing is majority of the drain happens sat at my desk all day.

In addition though, I have noticed GPS takes longer to lock on since 6.10 too. I use GPS & Galileo & have found myself starting activity before I have the green light. No idea if that's linked as I thought GPS was a separate update but it seems quite coincidental.

I'm using digital one, without seconds, actually maybe the problem is in your HR field, maybe you can try to replace it with either Average HR or something else just for sake of experiment? I've used to have higher discharge when tried to display some data and have gestures for backlight turned on.

I've updated once firmware become available, and first I had  no issues at all, and then out of the blue I've got this high drain. But after that I've changed a lot of things which described one page ago.

That's weird, as I'm using GPS+Galileo too and I can't spot the difference, as long as we have no clouds and clear sky without trees. So even if it changed it's not dramatic and I start it in the similar spot as usual(each time I walk out of house for running I open run screen and start walking to the spot where GPS reading is obtained and it doesn't seems to change much).

  • GPS defo taking longer. Probably around 1min as opposed to 30 secs previously. Often connects then drops straight back out and searches another minute or so before connecting again. No idea why !

  • Hey all! I am sorry to see this is happening. I am working to get all of the information sent over and starting to reach out to you guys with your permission. With that being said, I need to know, has anyone completed a reset yet without success as well as made sure all CIQ apps are updated if they are being used?

  • Yes completed reset and all apps appear to be updated through CIQ and still had a 75% drain in a 24 period yesterday.

  • Yes, reset performed and all CIQ apps are up to date.

The problem is that my screen isn't turning off anymore, and because of that, the battery is draining fast.

For now, I'm working around turning off the Venu and then turning it back on, which temporarily solves the problem.

I'm also experience some unusual GPS delay after the update.

  • I haven't reset however my battery drain was only increased to around 2% an hour not quite 75% in 24. It seems to have improve slightly now though. That said... When i restart device it almost always seems to restart at a higher battery percentage than when it shutdown.

However I do have issues with GPS connecting at the start of an activity. Very slow ! if it even connects at all. Used to be around 30 secs max, now 2 mins+. I often get a quick flash to Green/Ready & then back to Red & searching again too. Sometimes the phone isn't flashing & it just doesn't connect at all. Not sure if this is the crash others are reporting. However, I can start activity & the map at the end isn't far away from start point. It hasn't yet fully crashed requiring a restart.

  • By the way... I am aware the phone flashing is to do with connection to phone/Garmin Connect & not GPS. However when i say not flashing my phone would be out of range so not connected either. It seems to be more of a frozen screen as no scroll bar for GPS connecting either.
