Battery drain after dimissing activity

I've seen the thread about it keeping GPS on after GPS activity but I think I'm similar but slightly different.

When zwifting I start the watch recording an "indoor cycling" activity, mostly to force it to use my chest strap HR rather than wrist optical as its far more reliable on the bike. At the end of the activity I dismiss to save double logging activities in connect (I've got zwift uploading all its data to connect and it sends far more than my watch records) but battery drain is then sky high until I power cycle the watch.

I've gone through the settings menu and it still says it's searching for the sensors which could cause it. But after power cycle it still says searching so I can't swear that's the answer.

However, the thread talking about after recording GPS activities said he'd fixed it by clicking done to get out of the activity instead of pressing B. When dismissing the indoor ride I don't see a done at all.

Anyone any ideas?

  • For me, I thought it was GPS being active after the activity, but in your case your not using the GPS.

I was able to test by starting a GPS activity and it instantly had a lock, which to me, indicated, it stayed on after the activity.

For you, have you tried turning off the sensor anyway? Just to rule it out.

Other battery issue I've had recently, someone pointed out, that whenever you get a notification, the watch is staying stuck in high power mode. So whenever I get one, I swipe up to a widget and back down. Battery life has improved dramatically with this technique.

  • It was your thread I saw I was referring to when you said you'd found a "done" button when exiting the activity but I'm not using GPS and I'm not saving the activity so that's why I thought it was different enough to warrant its own thread?

If I go into settings>sensors I can turn them off. If I then start a new indoor cycling activity it instantly flashes up "pair sensors" so it's not switching them back on when I start the activity.

I tend not to dismiss notifications from the watch often, for most of the day it stays screen locked and I dismiss them on my phone when I get round to opening that and dismissing them. But I don't see how that's different before and after a power cycle after I've done the activity.
