Extra, Unearned Intensity Minutes

This is happening on two new watches, Venu 2s (sent back for other issues) and Vivomove 3s.  It appears the app is calculating extra minutes for anything beyond “resting” zone!   Checked watch HR zone settings and they have remained same.  Tried all known fixes and contacted customer support Monday.  Was told it was a known issue and they were hoping to fix with a big update supposed to happen same day.  No go.  I checked Express and Connect, re-synced in both, reinstalled both programs and nothing fixes this.  Last sat I earned almost 300 IM for going to  lunch and wine tasting.  My HR went up when walking to car in the 95 degree heat (sure the wine helped) but did not stay there long enough to register IM minutes.  Tested on several low-level intensity workouts purposely keeping my HR no higher than zone 2 and still given way too many IM where I really should not have registered any?   Used to be had to get into zone 3 and stay there for 10 mins or longer.  I hope Garmin fixes this!   Yes, I could change my own zones, but have always used default settings.  It makes no sense.  I know it’s programming because it is happening on both watches and my HR levels recorded do not warrant the extra minutes.  Anyone know if they changed their matrix for calculating?   Nobody at Garmin can tell me much of anything.  I get different info from one person to the next.

  • UPDATE:  The new watches default to an “automatic”’setting for the HR matrix in IM. Deep in the menu somewhere in Express and Connect, I found a setting to change back to “HR percentage” which is where I had it set on my old watches.  I am now back to having to work for at least 10 consecutive minutes in zone 3 to get any IM! Too bad I wasted all that time talking to Garmin on the phone—several calls and was told there was a known issue. At least I figured it out and it is now fixed. No help from Garmin support on this one.
