Vivoactive 4 wrong swimming stroke stile

Have this watch for 10 days , swimming every day , swimming pool 50 meters, lengths not counting correctly, and I do 20 breaststroke, and 40 freestyle

but it shows all as a freestyle, doesn't recognize breaststroke.

Anyone have noticed such a thing?

  • On my Fenix I have the opposite problem, I swim freestyle and it detects most as breaststroke.

  • just good too know it Software issues or need replace watch

  • I've been swimming with mine for quite a while, but never knew it detected stroke. Where do you go to see it?

  • On your phone Garmin connect app go to your swimming activity hit the therd icon of diogram chart ( it's like banded arrow ) then flip the phone make wide screen , you will see

  • Thanks. I see it now. I’ve often had problems with incorrect detection of laps, but pretty sure that’s just my poor swimming form.

I’ve used swimmingwatchtools.com to correct and merge laps. I’ll have to see if it can fix swimming stroke too.

  • You not alone strength (laps) is incorect  I mentioned it , mine starts showing laps number after I swem 20 strength but it starts showing 10 then 17 when Im doing 26 or so and at the end when I'm don 50 or 60 it still showing 40 , but updating info to the phone shows correct number. It should be counting right the way after each lap , otherwise what for this option if I counting it manually. Don't know, should I consider to return it, because Samsung releasing Galaxy 4 in August with totally new OS .

  • The lap counting is based on the motions detected when hitting the end of the pool, turning and pushing off again. If you don’t have a strong and distinct push off and glide at the start of each lap it has problems detecting it. For me, I understand that it’s my (less than ideal) swimming skills and as I’ve gotten better, the incorrect lap counting is far less often wrong.

The length of the pool has nothing to do with it, because that is just used to calculate distance swum. (Is that a word?)

  • I thought it used the compass to count laps. But the swimming skills does matter, because it is hard to tell which direction you are going if you arms are pointing all over the place.

  • Do you have on your watch option " LAP " ? Because I dont have it I have distance and lenght , and one length is a pool size. If it not counting each length then it useless because distance counting correct.

  • You could be right about the compass. I remember reading somewhere (maybe in the manual), that the strong push off and glide helps correct miss readings.
