Change History

Changes made from version 6.02 to 6.03:

  • Fixed an issue where timing out to a native watch face could cause battery drain

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your vivoactive 4 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip vivoactive4_603Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file into the \GARMIN directory of the device.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE_580.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE_580.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • So far it runs as good as 6.02 for me and the only major bug I see is PulseOX sensor turning to "All day" after my first sync in the morning.

Probably the bug with battery indicator not showing discharging after taking watch off the charger is still there too but I want to have real charge session in order to confirm that, as for now I only plugged my watch barely to the charger to transfer the new firmware.

  • I've installed the beta yesterday evening. Up to now the battery is still going down at abound 1%/hour, the same amount as it was since version 5.8.

It is with an external watchface. But in the previous versions battery drain was nearly the same with several external or native watch faces.

    (Vivoactive 4s)

  • I don't have PulseOX turning on for me.

I do noticed that the syncing of the hydration isn't always correctly

I couldn't estimate the battery precisely, but so far it seems to be about the same too.

Do you disable sync with the mobile during the nighttime? I've it enabled only during the day and turn off when I don't expect any notifications to save on battery.

Was it working for you before? As it was buggy for me even before that firmware, it works well as long as you have connection with the mobile but if it's lost your numbers on watch may get way different then on the mobile and afterwards they may get lost after sync will happen.

  • I don't touch sync in anyway.

Hydration has been working correctly with 5.80, with 6.03 I have the feeling it's a bit buggy.

  • Just did a workout from the Garmin coach and on SW 5.80 I would get 5 seconds before the next step a vibration every second a short vibration and then when the next step starts I would get a long vibrate. With the SW 6.03 this function has been replaced with a single short vibration, which is difficult to know what to do without watching the watch.
I would appreciate the notification about the vibration coming back!
  • I too have noticed garmin coach workouts used to give a few vibrations before changing to the next step and now it's only one.

Will have to test if it is the same for other workout types.

  • I'm not sure if Garmin is monitoring actively this track, myself I wrote to email just as they suggested, maybe drop them a line they even respond sometimes and work with you on some issues.

  • I mail and update here

  • same here, and hopefully they will return that feature or if it was done consciously to save battery life then give us an option to select amount of vibrations
