Hello! I am sorry to hear about your experience. Have you contacted support just yet to have this resolved. I am happy to go through a few things with you as well.
From everything I've heard from other people about Garmin support, they will jump through hoops to get this fixed for you (including a replacement). You should give them a call. I'm a member of several Garmin online groups with 1000s of members and honestly you are only the 2nd person I've heard of with this problem. The other was a Forerunner that was 4 years old.
