Vivoactive 4 "wait for GPS"

All apps that use GPS are the same.

CPE is current, I have synced it with connect and Express, I have reset to defaults and stood outside for hours, still sits there with "wait for GPS"

Software 5.8

GPS version 0.00 ( I am no software developer but this may be a hint)

  • GPS should be version 4.80.

  • So if it should be 4.80 then Express must only be checking the main version otherwise it would try to update 0.00 to 4.80. Is it possible to install GPS 4.80 or is it included in one of the major releases. This device did work for a week or so before the 5.8 upgrade so something has broken it during the upgrade I think.

  • Mysteriously Express just pushed an update to my watch, it did not fix the issue.

  • There is a new beta version available. How about installing it, and perhaps downgrading to 5.80 again according to the mentioned procedure? A new installation will probably fix your issue.

  • OK, so there was no solution to the GPS software version 0.0 problem, the upgrade that was pushed just kept trying to install every hour unless you reject it. I upgraded to the Beta but that didn't help so I downgraded again. Garmin is sending me a replacement watch.

  • I've seen the 0.00 version at times over the years on different device,  The true verion will show after the first GPS fix.

First thing is to reboot the watch.  Hold the upper right button until the watch turns itself off (maybe 20-30 seconds) and then turn it back on.  This is a reboot.

Then start something that uses GPS (the run activity for example), and set it outside under open sky and leave it there for maybe 20 minutes and make sure you get a fix.

Getting a GPS lock after this should be back to normal, and you should see a valid GPS version.
