Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your vivoactive 4 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip vivoactive4_602Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file into the \GARMIN directory of the device.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE_580.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE_580.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • I am guessing that firmware 6.0 is the latest firmware for the APAC version of the watch, while 5.8 is the latest firmware for the rest of us.

thanks, I'll check it as others I've tried didn't do what I wanted.

thanks, I'll give it a try, although today they didn't enable PulseOX for me. Can you tell if by soft resetting you mean holding top button for 15 seconds, am I right?

Another thing I noticed, the new firmware seems to have improved GPS-on time. I'm now getting about 11-12h instead of usual 6-8 (the watch is 1.5 years in use). Will monitor to check if it's not a fluke. For me it's a lot more important than standby battery performance.

that would be very cool if they can actually dobule the time, I may test it out over weekend as well as previously it wasn't enough for a long day of hike.

could be, it would be way more intuitive and logical if they just mark FW with some letters instead of giving different numbers for different markets.

  • Seems an Ok update to me - battery life is about the same, and I am seeing better elevation data. One comment - the watch now only buzzes once for workout step ends, whereas previously it was doing 5x buzzes.  I thought 5x was overkill, but 1x is too few (I keep on missing them).  Perhaps a sensible medium would be 2-3x?

  • I kinda like the 5x, 2 or 3 could also be a notifications.

I have noticed that the pulseoxymeter is oftened turned on by it self. At 100% and sometimes when using a store app.

  • Since 5.80 battery drains like crazy. Can't you fix it please????

Or give option to roll back to pre 5.80 SW

  • in fact, you can perfectly roll back to 5.80 if you want to. Just check the first thread it's said in installation instructions how to roll back, but please be aware that you'll lose all the settings and unsynced data:

  • I know, but I need to roll back version pre 580. Before that I had no battery drain

  • ah that, I misunderstood your question then. Probably the only way is to find the old beta firmware which has a way to downgrade to stable, I never tried the process though and possibly when you rename the file it simply try to download the version from their servers. Myself I wouldn't try that as not want to brick my watch.

And yes, it would be good if Garmin would give their clients a choice what software to run.

  • Your comments suggest that you haven't tried resetting to defaults post-upgrade. I understood that one of the common methods to fix battery drain issues is to perform a hard reset of the device.  I've had to do this in the past and yes, it's a bit of a pain setting up the screens the way you want them again, and getting Garmin pay working, but then its done.  The hard reset did work for me when I had your issue.  The fact that you don't see a lot of people complaining about battery drain on this version does suggest something specific to your device.  My battery usage is certainly normal with this version.

  • Hello all! If you have updated to the Beta 6.05 can you please do the following steps and let me know if you see a difference.

    1. Set your pulse ox setting to something other than your desired value
    2. Set the pulse ox setting to your desired value
    3. Sync
    4. Verify the pulse ox setting shows as the desired value on both the device and GCM/GC Web (under activity tracking settings for that device)
