Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your vivoactive 4 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip vivoactive4_602Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file into the \GARMIN directory of the device.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE_580.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE_580.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Had about 10 different activities these days, weren't able to replicate pulse ox self turn on in wrist settings, everything seems to be ok. Checking SpO2 manually won't trigger settings change either. Looks like it's random.

Still looking at battery discharge, doesn't seem to be consistent, now varies from 0.6 to 1.5% per hour aside from use during activities.

  • I concur Woody.
I am also using 4s and getting around 4 days to 80-85% discharged using stock face. Usually about 10/11% on day one due to staying at 100% for 12 hours after charge. The remaining 75% over the other 3 days at varying rates. With 5.60 I would get 5 days to the same level. They replaced my device and this is the bee one. The old one was actually better although still noticeably less after update to 5.80

  • Hey guys!

I am on version 6.0, and I am not able to upgrade to 6.02(beta). I have copied the file to the Garmin folder, but nothing happens when I disconnect the cable from my computer. This is a new VivoActive 4s, and I have downloaded the correct file vivoactive4S_602Beta.zip.

  • Bute 24%/day will give only 3-4 days with one battery charge - this is almost only 50% of the 7 days that the usage profile i am using should have (according to the values in the garmin data sheet).

7 days is probably achievable but only if you don't log any activities or they are short and if you don't use any fancy features and stock watcface. Myself I got 6 days with some trainings. I was aware of that fact before purchase so was hoping that the watch would deliver me 3-4 days at least which it totally delivers now(please note that I don't discharge battery fully no charge it to 100%).

yeah, it's weird issue, and most times it happened to me in the morning when I re-enable connection to my phone and have few activities to sync. You can give it a try to see if it trigger PulseOX for you or not.

how do you track discharge rate is it some battery widget or manually? But yes it become less consistent now but I definitely a bit more between charging than I used to before(around 1 day).

I'll ask stupid question, have you unzipped it prior to uploading like they said in instruction? Though it may not work for you as you already have version 6 and therefore updating doesn't start because it thinks that you already have that version.

  • I have unzipped and tried the correct file. Yes, considering that the zip file has GUPDATE_580.GCD for reverting back to the 5.8 version I think they did not account for 6.0. Maybe I have to go back to 5.8 then go for 6.02 Sweat smile

  • In theory, you could, but I'm not sure it's really worth it unless you want to report bugs to the team working on Beta, if you do, then sure, you can give it a try, just be aware that you'll lose all unsynced data and all your settings. Myself I'm kinda reluctant in switching back to 5:80

Also, I'm not sure if 6.0 is so much different than 6.02 and I still wonder how did you get it in the first place and how Garmin chose who would get the update.

  • Definitely, I will not go back to 5.8. The only reason for thinking about 6.02 is the better battery, as reported. But maybe that is based on the 5.8 version comparison. I bought this watch about a month back, so I don't have real usage experience concerning the battery.

I still wonder how did you get it in the first place and how Garmin chose who would get the update.

Some people are lucky! Heart eyes

    Thank you!

  • it's certainly not worth it, my logic in upgrading to 6.02 is that sooner or later we'll also face most of the issues which found in the firmware and while it's in development it probably would be easier to work with the developers about fixing those.

    Some people are lucky!

    so true :)

  • how do you track discharge rate is it some battery widget or manually?

Battery widget, this one https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5e49aebc-af75-43f4-9718-03159bd8b6da. I've used it with many Garmin watches, doesn't seem to impact battery life itself.

yeah, it's weird issue, and most times it happened to me in the morning when I re-enable connection to my phone and have few activities to sync.

My phone is connected to the watch at all times. Try soft resetting you watch - I did this several times and maybe it cured this Pulse Oх issue for me.

Another thing I noticed, the new firmware seems to have improved GPS-on time. I'm now getting about 11-12h instead of usual 6-8 (the watch is 1.5 years in use). Will monitor to check if it's not a fluke. For me it's a lot more important than standby battery performance.
