Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your vivoactive 4 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip vivoactive4_602Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file into the \GARMIN directory of the device.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE_580.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE_580.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Yeah. I am just using stock face but see the same variances just at a lower level. Anywhere from 11% which is generally after charge (stays on 100% for around 12 hours) up to approx 30% with no change in usage pattern or settings. Prior to 5.80 it was more consistent @ 15-18% a day. As well as the higher drain the calibration seems out which may account for lower drain after charge then it catches up with higher drain. There's no way it can't lose anything in the 12 hours after charge.

  • that it stays at 100% for around 12 hours is an observation that i've had too. For the actual beta and the 5.8. With the 5.8 it stayed at the last charging level for half of a day even when it was only partially charged to a lower level (that is something i did not verify up to now with the beta).

wow, those numbers looks crazy, I wonder what can possibly discharge watch so rapidly...

I can get such rapid discharge only runnig with GPS maybe, even PulseOX.

CIQ faces can be really hungry for power, especially if they have some fancy features which can sit idle for some time and then get enabled so I'd try to disable it and see if it helps.

yeah, that glitch still exists in Beta, but I think it's not that huge as it was, at least today I've charged up to 97%(forgot to turn off the charger) and after reboot it shows 99%.

I wonder, does anyone experience glitch with PulseOX? mine is keep enabled in the morning, I think it happens somewhere after I enable connection with the phone and measure my HRV. Watch just sneakily enables All day monitoriing. I keep disabling it each day, I even tried to set it to monitor PulseOX at night but it still enabled All day.

  • Hi sensovision

Just wondering if the 10% per drain has continued since this post ? I'm reluctant to try Beta software but hoping when it is finally released overall battery drain improves

it does, but I would hold off with upgrade just for now, as I've that PulseOX bug which is quite irritating, the one I described in the message above, other than that the watch lasts a bit longer. Before upgrade battery monitor was giving me average drain of 1.2% per hour, and on 6.02 it shows 0.7%

Also, just as was earlier mentioned there is another nasty bug with no multiple vibro during trainings, so today I've missed when I had to switch from run to walk thanks to that, as first watch bombarded me with alerts that I completed my step goal, my floor goal, my intensity mintues goal and it happened all at once. And right in that moment was another warning which somehow wasn't even displayed.

  • I'm having increased battery drain in normal state (just wrist HR, no notifications, activities etc.) - from 1.5% to 2% per hour instead of usual 0.5-0.8%. Also, I had two times Pulse Oximeter turning on on its own for continuous monitoring already twice. I didn't catch the first time, but the second happened right after activity.

Additionaly, the watch fails to turn off wrist HR once external strap is connected and activity started (rowing and strength). Have to turn off wrist HR manually bto make sure I'm getting right HR feed.

I wrote to support about that a few times, that's very irritating and I can't replicate it, possibly just as you said it turns on after some activities with HRM strap, but I've tried to re-create the scenario and failed. But for me it turns once every day.

Have you emailed about this to beta team?

huh, that's interesting, I didn't spot that's happening, but if it does that could explain my low HR during today's run, I'll check HRM logger for maximum pulse to see if it was the case but if that's true I may consider returning to stable firmware.

  • In newest firmware, if I manually start PulseOx once (through Widget) watch changes to measure PulseOx the whole day.

Before it only measured once and then went back to mode you set in the watch. Can someone confirm this ?

I just gave it a test, and no, nothing happened and my PulseOX settings are still off. I'm quite sure that it's just coincided, if you read posts above by me and oleksiy you'll see that it turns out either randomly or after starting activities

  • just to verify (again - i already did this with the 5.8) i've switched back to a garmin stock face.

Actual the battery has been discharged to 80% - with a rate of 24%/day. As we know now the discharge rate will accelerate at lower levels.

But i am using a vivoactive 4s (with a smaller battery) - maybe this could explain why others (with no 4s-models) do not have the same discharge rates.

Bute 24%/day will give only 3-4 days with one battery charge - this is almost only 50% of the 7 days that the usage profile i am using should have (according to the values in the garmin data sheet).

I'll see - when the issue is not fixed with the next sw-release i'll go to make a service call - and if an exchange of the watch does not fix it, it will go back to the supplier.
