  • I can not see a fix for the battery drain issue mentioned in the changelist. REALLY!? Is this a joke?

Laat night with the actual 5.80 here the battery had been emptied once more completely (including coming late to work).

  • I've just installed it myself to see if there are any bugs and try to report them, in fact if watch is already behaving bad for you you can take a risk and install beta too, it has nice widget which displays in time what modules are used by the watch like BLE, arm detection and such, backlight. Maybe this would help you identify what's draining it so much?

As for firmware itself I didn't use it long enough to see if has any glitches but the first impression is widget switching and other animations are a bit smoother which is cool.

Too bad they didn't add HIIT or a sleep widget, that would be really nice of Garmin not to ignore this watch and add something essential just like they did it on Forerunners.

  • In the meanwhile i installed the beta.

As the "overnight-drain" is only happening sometimes i will have to wait and see.

What i can already tell is that the slightly higher overall battery consumtion did not change. The watch has an average consumption of around 30% per day (no oximeter, no activities started, only hr-monitoring).

As a further information my girlfriend told me that in the night when the battery was drained completely the green light was a lot brighter than usual.

  • Woody, check your PulseOX sensor settings, I had it off for ages but today after the update I found it to be suddenly All Day on in the morning and I found it only because my battery drain was higher than usual(for 8 hours sleep time with phone off mode I have around 3-4% loss and today there were 10%). I'll report that bug to the support of course.

  • PulseOX sensor is off. The red LEDs are also always off.

  • have you tried to explore the widget which shows how much your backlight, radio modules and other stuff were on? That's how I've learned about PusleOX in the first place as it showed 38minutes in time when I have it on always off.

  • Pulse Ox is currently at zero - but with the beta that has the widget you've shown i did not have the overnight drain till now (it does only happen sometims).

  • What about other things, have you see anything what's consuming a lot of time in when it shouldn't as you're not using it? For me after upgrade to the previous beta which was 5.73 or something there was a battery drain from CIQ watch face, and after I set one from built-in watchfaces, it stopped.

What's interesting, after I turned off PulseOx my battery percentage halted at 71% which is a bit weird. I know that battery percentage can halt for a long time after charge,  but once numbers start to go down it's stable 1% off per hour.

  • difficult to say because i am using the "beta-widged" only since yesterday. During the last weeks we tried different watchfaces, including built-in watchfaces and this did not change anything.

BUT - it looks as if the power consumption has been reduced with the new beta. After a little bit more than one day of use i could observe that the power consumption dropped from 30% to 21% per day. Still a little bit to much, but much better.

Also the Problem i mentioned here seems to be solved.
    https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/vivoactive-4-series/265707/battery-stucks-at-100-after-charging-for-more-than-12-hours
After recharging to 100% it took only one or two hours until the battery went down to 99%. This seems to be a new and much better behaviour. I'll just have to prove it during the next charging cycles.

My usual power consumption was always in between 0.9-1.2% per hour range, which is roughly 28% for 24 hours. So maybe I'm not using the watch long enough to enjoy 21% a day.

That's pretty encouraging if they managed to fix power estimation, I'll surely pay a closer look next time I charge my watch. Thanks for heads-up!
