My watch doesn’t pick up gps I have to just manually start it .

Why doesn’t my watch pick up gps I have to manually start it before a run even if it’s been contacted to my phone .

also how can I can the Laps on my running app to just normal time . Because sometimes I’d just like to know how long I’ve been running.

The watch doesn't get the GPS location from your phone. It's got it's own GPS.

How long are you waiting for GPS, and are you outside under open sky?

Do you expect the running activity to start automatically when you have GPS? You still have to start and stop the activity, so the watch can know what you want to log. And the running time will be shown and stored.

The question doesn't really make sense to me. On the Vivoactive 4, when you start an outdoor activity on your watch, there is no way I'm aware of to "manually" start the gps. It will turn on the gps automatically, after giving you a message to wait for the gps to read.

Once the gps is picked up, it will then allow you to start the activity. It does not use the location service or gps on your phone.

Read this for instructions on how to change the gps settings for activities, if your watch is having trouble getting a reading.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 2nd part of your question. When you start the running app, it will show total time on the screen. If you go into that activity's settings (hold down the bottom button), you can customize the fields shown on that data screen and add up to 2 more data screens. There are several time fields to choose from.
