Custom Workout

I am currently doing intervals with rests in between, and figured I'd create a custom workout. 

warm up, 2.5k, rest, 2.5k, rest 2.5k, cool down. 

Rests and warmup and cool down ended by pressing lap. Perfect. 

However it's not. 

1) When you're in the "run 2.k" intervals, it just shows a screen with a count-down distance on it and heart rate. I can't get to see my pace or elapsed time!? Utterly useless!

Then even worse

2) It keeps the timer and distance going in the background when you're in a "rest" phase. It then means all my times are utterly useless as pace includes rest times and rest walking! 

Is there any way to actually make this work so it's a useful feature?!
