Why is HIIT workout profile only on Venu 2 and not on Vivoactive 4

Is there a reason that the HIIT workout profile is only available on Venu 2? This feels like a bummer since I just got my VA4 and am very satisfied with the rest of its features... is this something temporary and will be ported over to VA 4 in the near future? Or there're actually some technical difficulties with the port?

  • I guess Garmin wants to have some new features on the Venu 2 (and possibly Vivoactive 5?) to make us upgrade to new products. If you compare Vivo 2 to the "old" Vivo, there are quite few reasons to upgrade.

  • Yea... VA 5 is nowhere to be released soon tho, and Venu 2 is in another product line. I feel like VA 4 is still "young" and selling and Garmin should continue bringing good updates to it to keep nurturing its user base..

  • The vivo active 4 has been out for almost two year, and the Venu and Venu sq are both newer.  The Venu 2 has many differences from even the Veno, including HW stuff.  Very doubtful you'll get this feature on a device 2 years old.

Maybe it is the new HR sensor. Many reviews say it is picking up HR much better during HIT activities and rough activities, like CrossFit, HIIT, mountain biking. So Garmin maybe says "new better HR sensor now could work quite good with HIIT without users complaining about really bad HR data from the watch". But otherwise I don't think there are many HW differences to not include HIIT. It is a new watch. Normally they introduce new features, if at all, only to older high end watches like Fenix and FR 9xx line. So I don't think ANYTHING new from the V2 will come to VA4. They didn't even introduce sleep widget to VA4 which other Garmin watches got.

I am going to switch for different reasons from VA4s to V2s, already owning it for two weeks. Better HR and PulseOX sensor, HIIT and hike, sleep widget, health stats, better Body Battery and stress data from better sensors and sleep data. I think there is quite a lot to like about the new V2 series. But also some annoying stuff.

  • I'd call it lack of loyalty and desire to get new customers winning over keeping existing ones happy. Hence lack of accurate sleep tracking and their broken body battery and lack of HIIT even for people who have chest straps(I doubtful that motivation to include it to Venu 2 was dictated by the new sensors).

  • It's not that old  and don't forget that they still sell Vivoactive 3 just fine. The only reason which can justify to me not including something is processing power and battery life. But I'm sure that processing power is enough for HIIT.

Yeah, but Garmin has always been like this. New stuff introduced in new watches almost never make it to older devices, if so mostly expensive ones. I don't like this either. I would have kept my VA4s if it would have sleep widget included. But this is how they make more money. You can choose other brands or just accept it unfortunately. For me there is no other brand, all have more flaws imo than Garmin for different reasons. And Garmin knows that. I would try Polar but don't like the system on their watches + step count is beyond ridiculous (twice as many steps as Garmin, 20.000 instead of 10.000). Apple Watch is much less a sport and fitness oriented watch + horrible battery life. Other's are all chinese or at least have a chinese connection. And no Google and Android Wear for me. If you don't care about all of that, there are many other good sport watches out there.

yes, but that's the firmware for Fenix not Vivoactive, Fenix also has FirstBeat sleep widget and hiking from the beginning and Vivoactive feels like a forgotten kid.

  • I'm using "Cardio" activity to track HIIT trainings.
