Why does my maximum training heart rate not show up in the summary graph?

When I am training, my heart rate goes to around 176 BPM.

This is recorded in the activity HR graph, and in the Garmin Connect app.

However, on my Watch (Vivoactive 4), the HR summary widget does not show this max 176, it indicates the red maximum at 160-ish.

How does this work? Does the summary not include max rates in Activities? I obviously went higher than 160 in the past 4 hours, so why is the summary graph indicating a max heart rate of 160 BPM?

I don't understand why this is the case.

Also the Garmin Connect app displays the Max Heart Rate as 160, while there is an activity within 4 hours where I went well above 160. Can someone explain what's going on?

  • I don’t know about heart rate graph anomaly on the watch ( never bothered looking) but I agree there is an anomaly on the GC app not recognising the max heart rate of an activity. I would also like an explanation.
