Treadmill calibration problems

I just got a treadmill and have done a few walks on it. The first one, the watch recorded the distance about half of what it should’ve been but I didn’t know how to calibrate it so I edited it in Garman app. After the second walk, I recalibrated the watch because it was also almost half of the distance reported on my treadmill. The third walk, it was almost dead on and I was pleased, but did recalibrate just so they matched and hoping it would help it be as accurate as possible.

But today’s walk was more inaccurate than before, again reporting about half the distance, but this time it won’t let me calibrate properly? The watch distance was something around 2.1km. The treadmill distance was 3.15km. But the watch would only let me calibrate up to 2.43km, no more. I had to save it and edit it in the app again. What is going on? The steps seem correct, 4158 steps in about 38 minutes...

Why won’t it let me put in the correct distance? The numbers weren’t greeted out, just rejected when I tried to save. I even went so far as to check my treadmill to see if it is reporting the correct speed and distance and it was just about right. (Measured the band and counted revolutions). Anyone else experience this?

  • Seems like quite a few users have issues with low distance output from the treadmill walk activities. I mostly do running on the treadmill, and the watch is always in the right ballpark with the distance. I never bother to calibrate it, as I know it can never be right at more than one running speed anyway.

  • could you record a video with your phone of this process on the next few treadmill activities?  If you see the watch reject when you try to save, tag me in a reply so that I can email you to send me the video(s).  Additionally, performing some outdoor activities (with GPS connection) using the "Run" activity profile will give the Treadmill activity profile more data to use to calculate your distance and pace during future Treadmill activities, which should result in better accuracy moving forward.

  • Hi  , thank you for your reply. It happened again today so I was able to video it. Thanks again for your help!

  • @Garmin-Kevin I am not sure I tagged you right, but it happened, and I recorded the steps, again. Where should I send the video? Thanks!

  • I have found this since 5.80.  I could see from the graphs that the pace was way off for some parts of the activity - seemed to be missing some arm swings I guess and counting it as stopped.  I just realised yesterday that if I walk with my forearm more horizontal rather than with it down by my sides the step tracking seems to be far more reliable, and my distances are matching more closely.  Has gone from 50% of treadmill distance to ~90%.  Might work for you too...
