Problems after update

After the update (the 7 of May), the GPS function doesn't work anymore. The distance and time are not correct on my Vivoactive 4. There is also no route after the walk available.

  • My GPS is fine, but I have a problem with the battery. Completely drained after just a few hours! Same 7th of May update.

  • After a restart of my watch, everything is okay now

  • Good morning,

Yesterday I said everything is okay, but indeed the battery goes fast!

  • Same here - there is a pronounced increase in battery drain. Was getting close to 7 days out of it - now down to 2.

  • Battery drains very fast. One day and it's dead. Used to get 4-5 days. Vert frustrating. I have tried all the suggested fixes, but no luck.

  • Open a ticket with garmin support. This is a software problem and we don't know the status. We need to build some pressure to get this fixed.

  • How do you know it is a software problem? I don't have any issue, and I am pretty sure most watch owners don't have issues with this. People mostly come here to the forum because they have some problem.

I think most watches with issues are in some sort of failure state after some upgrade went wrong.

  • The cause of the problem is a software problem, a failure state after a wrong upgrade is also a software problem with the installation and needs to be fixed or at least we need a workaround. Even if it only affects 5% of users.

I know some bugs are hard to trace and not fixed in one day, i work in software development as well. I just want a developer or QS to have a look at it and Garmin to give me a status update what they are doing.

My watch was fine with 5.60 so whatever happened in the recent update caused the problem.

A lot of people also don't know about this forum, some may reach out to support, some may send their watches back and some will just ignore it or dont even notice because they charge every night.

  • If you have been around here for a while, you will notice a pattern. Every time Garmin rolls out new software (like 5.8, or the new sensor SW), a random set of forum users will get the same issue. They will write that the watch was okay before, but that the battery life is now significantly reduced. The problem seems to be related to the software rollout itself, not the software that is rolled out. What you see now, others were experiencing with 5.6 and older software versions.
