Thoughts on the Viovactive 4

Hi everyone

I've recently bought a Samsung Active 2 Watch and am really disappointed with it.  The steps counter isn't accurate, it records me as cycling whilst driving, the battery is drained daily and doesn't record me as active during a 60 minute run.  little things in the grand context of thing but (in my opinion) it's an expensive watch that doesn't do the basics.

so i'm returning the Samsung watch and the next watch i was looking at was the Garmin Vivoactive 4S watch.  But wanted to get people's opinions on it before buying (another expensive) watch!.

I'll predominately use to it log runs / steps / heart rate / GPS but want something a bit accurate as otherwise there is no point in having a smart watch.

many thanks for reading - i look forward to reading your replies.

Take care

Sarah

  • For runs, steps, heart rate and GPS, the watch works well. For the days you need accurate heart rate, get a chest belt for it.

  • Hey Sarah, I love my VA4 but there are a few caveats, just as ovekvam told they are good for runs, steps count, and battery life should be better than Samsung. GPS tracks are far from accurate as I'm shown on the map like 10 meters away from location which is probably okay for a watch but same track written by my phone is way better and show me spot on.

As for chest strap I would recommend only for resting heart rate and walking, and for latter you need to make sure that your band is sitting good on wrist. But chest strap is a necessity if you doing any cardio, running, etc.(of course if you care about accurate pulse readings) and it will be the same with nearly any watch on the market maybe with exception of Apple watch(at least based on some tests videos on Youtube).

Also, if you're looking for sleep tracking and you have either irregular sleeping schedule or going to bed lately be ready that your morning will start from manual correction of your sleeping hours. It's pretty bad for me.

And lastly, there is no Google Fit integration somehow, yeah I know it's 2021 today but still no Google Fit integration, but you can fix that using Health Sync app for Android, it's not ideal but better than nothing.

  • Also the Samsung watches can not count stairs. I moved from my Samsung to a Vivo4 and now have a Venu 2. You will find a lot of folks on these forums with concerns about the Garmin watches but in my opinion the Vivo is much better than the Samsung.
