Issues with heart rate alert and distance measurement

Hi all,

I am having 2 issues with my vivoactive 4, Garmin support has been ZERO help so figured I'd see if anyone here can help.

1. First issue is that for the Run activity I have set a heart rate alert to go off when I exceed 125 BPM. The alert does trigger but with no consistency around timing. When I exceed the heart rate threshold sometimes I will receive an alert twice in the span of 20 seconds. Other times I have observed being over the threshold for 3+ minutes with no alert from the watch. I would expect this alert feature to have some consistent timing like every 30 seconds. Is anyone aware of how to have heart rate alerts display at some regular interval? It is not really a useful feature if the watch lets me exceed the threshold for several minutes with no alert.

2. The GPS tracking of my watch seems to be very accurate on my routes, I look at the map after the run is recorded on it closely mimics my route. However even though GPS tracking is good the distance measurement is not very accurate, especially for the 1st half mile of the run. I have compared measurements with google maps and physical measure with bike speedometer and when those indicate I have gone 1/2 mile the vivoactive 4 only displays .35 miles. This is a huge discrepancy across such a short distance. The remainder of the run there are still discrepancies with the vivoactive 4 recording less distance but not as sever as the first 1/2 mile. I regularly sync the watch, do the GPS soak before run, and has set GPS tracking to every second. Nothing has helped, any ideas how to get more accurate distance measurement?

Thanks!

  • I just ran a 5K that was a controlled distance. My VA4S measured it to 4.99 km. I have however noticed that if I run in a forest, the watch will cut corners, and report too low distance and speed.
