Connected to phone, but notifications aren't popping up on watch

My Vivoactive 4 is connected to my iPhone. I can see the phone notifications in the widget on my watch. I can ping the phone with the "find phone" feature on the watch. Garmin Connect on the phone is also showing that my watch is connected without issue. However, the notifications are not popping up on my watch when they are triggered on the phone. In other words, my iPhone alerts me with a notification, but the Vivoactive 4 does not alert me.

Everything had previously worked exactly as expected until I traveled on a plane. I've traveled before and not had this problem, so that may just be a coincidence. Do Not Disturb is off. I have power cycled the phone and watch. I removed the watch as a bluetooth device on the phone and re-added it. I even de-registered and re-registered the watch in Garmin Connect.

I'd prefer not to factory reset the watch, but that's the next step if the community doesn't have any suggestions.

  • Hey there! Please follow these steps! 

    Please open the iPhone settings,

    • go to notifications then CONNECT,
      • The middle notification center needs to be CHECK MARKED and show previews needs to be set to ALWAYS
      • If you see temporary it must say Persistent
    • Hit the back arrow, go to notifications then MESSAGES
      • The middle notification center needs to be enabled and show previews needs to be set to ALWAYS
      • If you see temporary it must say Persistent
  • Thanks for the reply, . Oddly enough, the notification for your reply popped up on my watch without me taking any intervention. The banner style was Temporary and the show previews was set to When Unlocked. I don't know how these would have been changed inadvertently as they're buried very deep in the menus. I followed your advice anyway, so hopefully the notifications are no more problem for me.
