New Vivoactive 4 has 5.3 software

Hi my new Vivoactive 4 only has software version 5.3 but I note on the forum that there is another version 5.6 available. I have checked if the device is up to date with software both via the IQ app and the device itself and both say no update available. 
Any ideas why 5.6 is not available in my device? 
I am in Australia in case there are country restrictions fir some reason.

  • Have you tried to connect it to PC and use garmin express? It usually shows fw-update pretty well. Also you could ask from Garmin support.

    There is also newer version 5.73 BETA, but use it at your own risk... Hey, it's BETA, remember ;)

  • I’ll try that thanks not sure if it will work with a Mac - I think I will pass on the Beta version though. 

  • Says version 5.30 on Garmin Express as well. I am not to bothered about upgrading to 5.6 unless there are loads of new features. I’ll just wait until the Beta is released. Thanks

  • It is possible that you have an APAC model, which usually comes with a different SW version then the ROW model.

  • I am in Australia so that may explain it - a bit odd that we have different software but I am sure there is a reason for it. Very happy with the unit so far, way better than my old Fitbit except for sleep monitoring which is a bit ordinary. 

  • there are (at least) these differences that I found: 
    APAC version have Chinese font/language support
    APAC version have BeiDou Navigation Satellite System support

  • Those were details of a different model but quite possible that those matches still...

  • I live (and bought) my VA in Australia. My watch automatically updated to sw version 5.6 several weeks ago. I believe my watch has always updated to the current version within a few days of notification of a new version availability on this forum. Sometimes I have used ‘check for SW update option on the watch but mostly update has been automatic. From my experience most digital watches (eg Garmin, Fitbit) will need their SW updated emediately after purchase as it would be impractical to produce and sell a watch with latest SW. Tip: You may need to have your watch on charge and connected to Garmin Connect to give it the nudge to look for updates.  

  • Thanks Svenxx, although I live in Aus I got my Vivoactive 4 from Singapore although why that would make a difference is beyond me. I tried connecting it via Garmin Connect when it was on charge and no updates. As I said not a big deal as it all works well.
