Elevation graph error - is this normal?

Hello! The elevation graphs from my vivoactive 4 activities contain strange step like errors and I was wondering if this was normal or if it was a fault. It looks to me like the sensor gets stuck for a while then recovers, but I've changed elevation since then so it steps to the new elevation. Maybe there's a problem with the pressure sensor/altimeter? What other people's graphs look like? Cheers!

  • I have seen similar (but larger) steps on other Garmin units before, and it was caused by clogged sensor holes. On the VA4(S), they are located near the top of the watch, on the backside.

  • Very interesting! Is there a recommended procedure for cleaning these sensor holes?

  • I don't know. I have used water and a needle, but maybe one of the Garmin representatives have a better procedure.

Hey there! Could I have you follow the instructions in this article to calibrate the barometric altimeter on your watch? When it mentions "keeping the ports free or clear of debris" you can try to run low pressure, warm water over the sensor port and gently remove any visible debris. (Please do not put any objects into the sensor port) Once done rinsing and removing, shake away excess water and allow it to dry, then try to calibrate it.
