How long can an activity be paused?

Dears,

i read some time ago that the Vivoactive can only (manually) pause an activity for 20 minutes before it does auto-save and finishes the activity.

is this still the case or is this fixed with new software?

background: I would like to record my daily commutes as one combined activity, so I need a watch that accepts „infinite“ pause for +8hrs without doing crazy things or draining the battery in idle...

I am affraid this is still an issue in 5.60. And honestly I doubt Garmin would ever change this. Maybe with VA5, so you would be forced to upgrade. Unfortunately there is a long-term ignorance from Garmin to implement any changes suggested here in the forums, so I wouldn't keep your hopes up.

If you're activity uses GPS, the GPS will stay on during the 8hr pause, draining the battery.

How about the ability to merge 2 activities? That would seem more logical than keeping an activity on extended pause in my mind.

I have the same issue with the vivomove s3, Out riding around and like to stop for food/drinks and want to be able to resume my same ride I was on. It seems like in less than 3-5 minutes the vivomove stops and saves the ride instead of allowing me to resume.

We do not have the option to merge activities. This actually has been requested and we have a case opened on it to give this feed back to our engineers so I can get you added to this as well!

The merging could be a Connect feature. It doesn't have to be in the watch. I can do it manually by exporting to GPX and merging with online tools, then uploading the merged GPX file manually. It would be more practical if Garmin had a feature to do it for me, and it should be rather easy to implement. I think such a tool would be used a lot.

Yes, I completely agree! The feature request I have added to would be for a tool in Garmin Connect itself. I can not make any promises on if changes will happen but I will keep an eye on this thread and continue to add others as well!
