Vivoactive 4S accuracy concerns

Just bought me first Garmin product.  I've never had a smartwatch or fitness tracker before.  I have used the watch for about a week.  yesterday I went for a walk and noticed that the watch tracked my activity at 7 km.  Google maps shows my route was just under 4 km.  We will in an appartment, so walking at home is minimal.   Can the watch be this inaccurate?

I'd read good reviews of the watch and the purchase was a splurge for me, I 'm debating if I am using it incorrectly or if the discrepancy is from the watch itself.

Any advise will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello! Were you able to let the GPS fully acquire before you started the walk activity? Any chance you are able to share the link to the activity here?

  • Thanks for the reply.  I hadn't checked GPS before starting the walk.  I'm trying to connect to GPS, and all I get is a "wait for GPS" message

Okay, are you waiting outside for the GPS to acquire or inside? Once outside, it should acquire a signal and then will say "Ready". After it says ready, then you can hit the top right button and begin to track the walking activity.
