Is my battery life as good as it gets?

(pulling my question up out of a thread)

I am not complaining, as my battery life is not awful as others have mentioned. My VA4 uses anywhere from 15 to 25% per day and need to recharge after 3-4 days, which doesn't seem right for the very minimal activity I currently do.

- PulseOX Off
- Garmin basic watch face that is preinstalled
- turned off most widgets
- Brightness to 30% and short timeout
- Vibration to medium
- one 20-30 minute non-GPS activity per day (elliptical)

Here is what I have tried from recommendations:

- full watch reset, delete from Connect, and setup new
- 5.30 beta, 5.46 beta - full reset on each
- sync with Garmin Express on desktop
- upgrade to 5.60 - with a full reset, delete from Connect, and setup new
- turn full off as rep in here recommended - hold power for 45sec and then back on

So, I would expect 5-7 days before needing to recharge but I have never gotten close. Is this expected or should I expect better? Biking season is getting under way and I will be using GPS for a few hours per week and a dread battery life going down further.

Thanks for any guidance.

  • Today I have done exactly what your typical day describes and I am down 15% from yesterday, which is within the range you describe.  Plenty of notifications, calls etc. If I were to continue then I guess you would expect 6-7 days from the charge.  However, I do a lot of GPS activities which drains about 10-15% for every hour on GPS and so I recharge more often than this.
