Vivoactive 4 missing basic activities like inline skating

I am wondering why there is no possibility to start (common!) activities like inline skating or hiking via the fitness watch.

You are able to create "custom" activities by copying existing ones but you have no way to select these "other" activities.

This means you have to use the wrong type of sport and afterwards manually change the sport type in the Garmin Connect App.

There are 3rd party (paid!) apps that support these types of activities and it blows my mind how there is no possibility to track these by default.

The FIT protocol (and Garmin Connect APP) support a total of 49 sports. Why is it impossible to start these activities out of the box with a device that I paid 250€ for?

  • It would be a mess to select between 49 different types every time you start an activity. After all, some of them are the same, just with different names. I use XC Ski for the purpose.

  • Well, using the app you can choose which activities to favorite and which activities to hide (remove) completely so this wouldn't be an issue. The issue is that these activities are missing completely so you don't even have that choice.

  • I agree fully that such aoftware limitations just cripple usability of the watch. Using different workout modes (apps) or renaming in Garmin Connect later is just waste of time and not user friendly.
