Vivoactive 4S heart rate completely off while steep uphill walking

Hi,

I have made a mistake propably and bought Vivoactive 4S as a gift to girlfriend for HR and activity tracking.. hesitating first, but since HR issues on my Fenix 6 has been resolved, I give another chance to Garmin. But HR issues all over again.

When me and my girl are practicing steep uphill walking the HR is too low, sitting around 100 bpm no matter what. Once you stop and go back downhill, it rise up to 140 bpm at spot. Take a look:

How to fix this? Different activity? Or different brand of watch? :-(

Regards

Tomas

  • One alternative is to spend slightly more money, and buy a heart rate chest strap. Wrist heart rate is not really reliable for those who use heart rate based training. I use the wrist sensor for most of my training, but I always use the chest strap for activities where the heart rate really matters.

  • Alternative is also to make more apps (with approprate algorithm for hiking, speed walking, etc).

Another alternative is to disclose how limited device actually is for heart rate tracking.

Another is to put better sensor in watches. It is known that Apple watches have best optical heart rate sensors, more accurate than Garmin, so I would not excuse this by saying it is techologically impossible.

I must say again, sports watch that cannot measure properly walking uphill is really nonsensical for me.
