How to not discard activity by accident

Today I accidently deleted my first bike ride of the season before I could sync it. Firmware 5.60.

When stopping the activity, I touched the screen wrong somehow, and got up a screen saying that if I continued, the activity would be discarded.
I did of course not want this, but it was not clear how to avoid it. I tried waiting for a while, to see if it would go away by itself. It didn't.
Then I tried pressing the lower half of the touch screen, where the green saving option usually sits. Didn't' work.
I did not dare to press any buttons, so I went for the red cross on top of the touch screen, hoping it would mean cancel. It didn't. Activity deleted!

What should I have done in this situation to get out of the situation?

You can cancel the deletion by "going back" like you usually do while navigating the watch's menu.

Hitting the top red cross means that you confirmed the deletion.

Even after hitting this top red cross, you could have "undone" the deletion:

After you hit the top red cross, there is a small window in which you can undo the deletion by hitting the lower button. You can see a "undo" icon on the screen right by the lower button. It doesn't work by touchscreen, you have to hit the button.

I suggest you play with a dummy activity. Start a walk, let it for a few second, then pause it and see what happens when you hit buttons or different areas on the screen, so you get familiar with how things work.

  • Dear Garmin - can you create a Trash, where Discarted activities will be saved, with an option to a) send back or b) delete forever the activity,

that would be a big help for Vivoactive 3 series, thanks :)

  • I agree. That would be awesome.
