Vivoactive 4s overestimating calories?

Hello everybody,

I'm new to Garmin. I had a watch from a competitor before and had massive problems with the company and the watch, so I decided to get myself a vivoactive 4s around a week ago. I really love the watch, but the last couple of days I have noticed something strange. Today I have only been inside and only have 1.600 steps and the watch says I have burned almost 500 active calories? The other day it said I had burned 900 active calories. 300 of that was a walk so thats fair, but after that I was only home. Can this really be accurate? My previous watch showed me only around 150-200 active calories when I stayed home all day.

Thank you for your responses!

  • HI there! Be sure to double check your user settings, (age, birthday etc) then we also ask to give the device about 7 days to acclimate to your body.

  • Same here, I am currently working at home and my fitbit watch normally gives me 2700 Cal, but my Venu 2 tells me I burn more than 4000 Cal. Did you find the solution?

  • Sometimes I try to track the time I spent doing chores, so I start Yard work activity for that. And nearly each time no matter how intensive my activity were, it adds way more calories than I feel I've burned.

Apparently, it's connected with the watch's ability to accurately track your heart rate, especially if you don't make sure that your watch sit tight on your wrist. And since watch is monitoring your HR more actively during any activity it will add way more calories to your day.

So maybe you enabled some activities during that or your HR was way above the norm during the day, I'd try to check that in the first place.
