How to: GPS off by default

I only got a Vivoactive 4s yesterday and would like to know what happens when the watch detects an activity like walking or cycling automatically: will it switch on the gps or not?
If so, and just because I want to preserve battery life: how do I switch it off for selected activities? I've went through all the menus in the app that I could find, but nothing.

It does not switch on GPS unless you start activities manually.

Great. That's something. But how do I switch it off? I might want to hike a full day without having gps data because the watch will along the way run out of juice? I can't find this setting in the app/website

You can disable GPS for a spesific app in the settings. Or you can simply select the indoor version of the app, if you only want to record steps/cadence and heart rate.

You can go in the walk activity and before starting it you can scroll up, tap settings, go to GPS, tap on it and choose "Off".

Not sure, but I think it remembers that for that type of activity you don't want GPS. So next time if you want GPS, you'll have to go again in the settings and turn it on.
