Why does this watch require constant manual syncing?

My wife has an Apple Watch which just works all the time. This VA4 is never up to date with information like weather unless you sync it. The hydration tracking hardly ever pushes the information to my iPhone 11 (5 out of 35 days so far). I wonder if mine is just a one off or if they are all so ‘dumb’?!

  • I’ve just gone on to the Wi-Fi settings on the watch and realised that ‘auto upload’ was not turned on....I wonder if this will eliminate the issues I’ve been having? I’ll update this post tomorrow once I’ve given the watch a chance to redeem itself!

  • I noticed last night that the auto upload checkbox in the Wi-Fi settings was not checked so I turned it on expecting that I would wake up to a fully functioning watch! This didn’t happen; the weather was non-existent until I synced the watch to the connect app.

  • In honesty, yes it does cause frustration. If this is a must for this interface then surely you could solve a lot of the issues mentioned in these forums by telling people this from the outset (in the instructions for use)? I still feel like this is a work around rather than a well designed interface.

  • Keeping the App open in the background does not work. The watch only syncs when the app is open, any other suggested fixes? If not do you know the easiest way of getting refunded for this watch? It does not work as advertised and is bettered by nearly any other smart watch on the market.

  • What data are you finding does not sync. Most everything I look at on a regular basis on my watch face updates every time the screen lights up.

  • The weather and the hydration both have the red notification at the top of the watch which state “Reconnect to phone to refresh data”. When I’m the Connect App, the hydration section does not reflect what I have been putting in to the watch; I think out of about 40 days maybe 5 days show any sort of hydration although not all of it. My phone thinks I am barely drinking and never reach the targets whereas in reality I surpass the target almost every day. The weather is only ever as good as the last time I manually synced the watch to the phone. Wi-Fi auto update is checked and on, keeping the app open in the background on my phone doesn’t work (although this is a cumbersome work around at best).

  • I am not using hydration but my weather widget does not have that notice. And when I sync to the phone the weather does not change. I am using Android. Is this maybe a problem with the iPhone app?

  • Yes, as stated in the original post I have an iPhone 11.

  • Yes sorry I was just suggesting it was an app issue to see if other iPhone users see the same. Or maybe it is your specific watch

  • It’s fine! I see my reply before might have come across as a bit rude, that wasn’t my intention, I appreciate the help! I thought that Garmin might have been more open to helping me out though.
