Beta update v5.46 problem

Hi,

Beta update v5.46 has just arrived!
www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp
I downloaded and installed it, and will post back my impressions.

Edit:
It seems that it broke the raise to wake feature. I mean, the screen lights up when I raise my wrist, but no additional info is shown by the watch face, whereas before, additional fields were appearing (based on the watch face). I tried to re-install the watch face I was using but to no avail. Can someone please confirm?

Thanks

  • Looks like when you start a walk (for example) and if you wait a little after getting GPS fix, it tells you if it got a 3D fix too and if you're connected to the phone's connect app (or at least that's what I think the message containing "GCM" in it was.

Was this before and haven't noticed it, or is it new but just for beta fw?

But can't say I'm impressed with GPS tracking, yesterday's walk with 5.21 beta seems more accurate for me.

  • Can confirm that something is wrong with second hand. I have same issue with IQ watchfaces even if watchface is from Garmin (for example Titanium or Army). Not sure about stock because stock watchfaces on VA4 doesn't provide this functionality (I mean show second hand on gesture).

  • Hi, sorry for not replying earlier. The watch faces I am using are the "Clear and Powerful" and the "Absolute Analog Minimalism".

I want to attach photos from these 2 watch faces, The first one in each of them shows the current behaviour, and the second one shows the expected behaviour when you raise your wrist, where additional fields are supposed to appear. To make them appear, I pushed the back button twice. How do I attach photos in the forum?

  • Hi there, could somebody please tell me if following errors have been fixed in the new update?:

    - when interacting with the alarm clock ringing screen, the backlight goes off (5.10)

    - when viewing notifications from the widget, a banner shows up after selecting a message and then you have to click the banner to view your message (privacy setting: gesture, 5.10)

  • Interesting...

    SW 5.10:

    • Fixed gesture handling for CIQ watch faces => causes the battery drain bug

    SW 5.46:

    • Fixed some scenarios where battery drain can occur on Connect IQ watch faces => gestures no longer working?

Gestures are working for me with the SW 5.21 beta (got the seconds on gesture with the Rails face, if you want to try that one?).

I really want to be mistaken, but it sounds like it took over 2 months for Garmin to rollback the gesture fix from 5.10 rather than addressing the battery drain issue with a working gesture detection.

  • I am experience the same - the "awake" extras do not work on my watch face. I have Tonix Classic installed. It is supposed to show battery %, HR, sunrise, sunset, etc. When I flick my wrist, the screen simply lights up.

I can report this, but the locked post with the beta firmware indicates to email venubeta (venu?) which seems odd.

I would imagine it is a copypaste mistake since the same message was posted in the Venu forums.

I believe the correct address to give feedback is [email protected] (that was the address for the 5.21 beta)

  • The software of Venu is identical to VA4, I presume there are same people working on it. I would use the given adress Slight smile

  • Can confirm the alarm behavior: the back light goes off when interacting. But I presume it is designed like that, not a bug. Imagine it's dark in the room, the watch starts vibrating and the screen lights up; when you snooze or close, you want the back light off as quick as possible, right? Then if you are ok with it, touch it again and it lights again.

Regarding notifications, I have privacy set to off, so can't help you here. I just click the notification and read it, from the notifications widget.

  • Apparently, this is part of the update - "awake" feature is disabled, while they track down battery drain issues.
