HIIT Tracking

Hi, I'm new to the Garmin watch world and wondering what the preferred method is to track HIIT workouts onto my watch without wearing it.

I currently wear a MyZone HR tracker and was hoping that would translate over to my watch stats (intensity minutes, steps, HR, etc). I've paired the devices but must lose pairing if I take off the watch. Maybe this is not possible unless I physically the watch? I do a lot of Kettlebell workouts and the like so I'm not comfortable wearing the watch for a typical workout.

Thanks!

  • I think that in order to have steps, intensity minutes, HR, record on your watch (and in Connect), you will need to actually use one of the workout profiles on your watch--or, at least wear it while you work out. You could just select "Cardio" and go from there. I wear my watch, paired with an OH1 on my upper arm, and I use kettlebells regularly during my workouts.

Your Garmin device pairs with an OH1?

  • Hello! Welcome to Garmin! If you have any questions we are here to help! Unfortunately, you will need to actually have the watch on for these stats.

  • Well since Intensity minutes is calculated from your heart rate and if your MyZone HR tracker is paired to your watch, that shouldn't be an issue, just like the heart rate. It's the steps that it won't calculate if you're not wearing it.

When I do my upper body workout, I remove my watch while doing forearm exercises and my strap keeps recording my heart rate. Just make sure you don't go wandering too far from the watch for it to lose its signal.
