Vivoactive 4 - battery drain issue ( 25% per day)

Hi guys,

I've read a lot here about it but not sure what's going on:

- VA 4 brand new ( 2 weeks) and updated to latest SW 5.10

- I'm using a IQ Connect watch face named 'Clear & Powerful' and few custom widgets like 'Fever Monitoring'

But I a have a battery consumption of 25% per day so in total 4 days battery only which is half of the promised 8 days.

Far as I understood the main cause could be 5.10 plus a custom watch face. But the stock ones are just horrible...

  • How bright is the display set to?

Do you have pulse ox set to record all the time?

How much are you using the GPS?

  • Brightness = 30% (default, not changed)

Pulse OX = only on demand maybe 1-2 times per day, not during the sleep

GPS = none. I've recorded some daily Walk activities but without GPS enabled - they consumed maybe 5-6% of battery

I'll try to revert to stock watch face or CIQ Infocal which I see was recommended here...

Hard reset and stay away from CIQ, for both battery and stability...

  • Please post if you find an answer not related to CIQ watchfaces!

So far, I'm trying what someone suggested which was turning off Do Not Disturb, because nothing else I tried has worked so far. I'm hoping they'll fix it with the next update. I've had mine for about a month, so it's always been like this; my fitbit gets about twice as long battery life. I also get the feeling this started with version 5.10. I have brightness at 20%, no gestures, no notifications, I have used GPS one time since I bought it, etc etc and it's about 4 days or a bit less. Having to charge this every four days has been unpleasant. I think 6 would be fine because it would give me a weekend on average, 8 would be amazing, but so far I'm stumped and just kind of waiting for the next update. I even tried installing the beta but it didn't change anything wrt battery life.

  • I think the battery drain is related to...starting/using an activity mostly.

Yesterday evening I've changed to Infocal watchface with 1 min refresh rate and before starting an activity with no GPS I had 96% battery

This morning, after a night of sleep and 30 min Walk (no GPS) I have....82%

Or there are some processes which consume battery in background...not sure how to check that

  • Try "Rails" watch face. Infocal doesn't stable with vivoactive 4/4s.

  • Note that battery life is not linear. I charged mine to 100% yesterday and I'm now at 99% after ~23 hours of usage. By tomorrow it should drop as usual (~10% a day unless I'm doing an activity).

  • In the last 24 hrs I had only 20% battery consumption using Infocal watchface. I will try to not start any activity for the next 24 hrs to see if this helps...

  • nope, only 4 days with CIQ Infocal watch face.

my girlfriend reached 5 days on Vicoactive 4s but still not the promised 6-8 days.

    both we have 5.10 firmware

there is a way to revert to previous firmware?

  • I don't think Garmin ever promised 6 to 8 days. Garmin says you can get up to 8 days on a VA4. But when you read the fine print in the manual, you need to turn off just about everything to get the 8 days. Most of us that buy these watches don't want to turn everything off so we get less than 8 days. In my case I use 22% to 23% a day and routinely charge the watch every 3 days. I used less battery before I added weather to the watch face. But I want the weather so I tolerate the more frequent charging.
