Vivoactive 4s battery drain

Hi everyone.

I recently bought the Vivoactive 4s a few days ago. I am finding the battery drain fairly unusable. I have trawled through the forms to use settings that basically doesn't use the watch at all at rest. Even over night last night at 100% battery goes to 66% in 7 hours with the newest 5.21 beta version.

Does anyone have a previous software version of the Vivoactive 5.01 that seems to work well with the battery issue that they can send me? Any other advice?

Thanks!

Lewis

  • Seems like one of the most common battery drains is to use a custom watch face. I have no battery issues with my VA4S using a Garmin watch face and 5.10 software. If I charge to 100 percent, the watch will still show 100 percent after one night of sleep.

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I used to have 5.10 last night but changed it to the 5.21 to see if it will help. I use the following:-

    • Lachesis watch
    • Hr on
    • Bluetooth off
    • GPS off
    • Pulse ox off
    • Notifications off
    • Resp on
    • Body battery on
    • Auto lock off

Can I ask for a detailed list of your settings? What watch face do you use exactly?

    Many thanks,

    Lewis

  • I also have bluetooth disabled, and use Wifi for syncing activities. Pulse OX off, body battery on, heart rate on, sleep tracking on, no gestures. I use the default custom watch face from Garmin with digital readout, date, battery percentage and seconds shown with a ring around it. I sometimes use GPS based activities like running and bicycling.

  • My 4S has pretty much the same settings except the watchface (I use stock Garmin face) and my battery drain is correct. It lasts for well over a week (2 or 3 runs/week of ~40 minutes each).

I didn't have any issues with 5.10 neither but it is a fact that CIQ watchfaces cause extra drain from 5.10 onwards. There's this bug report: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/battery-drain-issues-on-va4-and-4s-using-ciq-watch-faces-since-sw-5-10-release On the other hand, your battery drain feels excessive even with the extra drain starting from 5.10.

My suggestion is to switch to a stock Garmin face. If the battery life is not dramatically improved immediately I'd consider returning the watch to the shop as defective product, if you just bought it few days ago. I would not count on any "upcoming firmware update" that would fix your issue.

  • Thanks for your input. I spoke with Garmin who have kindly organised an exchange for a new Vivoactive 4s watch. Let's see if it will be any better! Thanks guys
